What to look for in a pair of boxing gloves
Now that Farm Girl Fitness is offering boxing classes, one of the questions we keep hearing is: “What should I be looking for when purchasing a pair of boxing gloves?”
This is a very important question since boxing gloves are not just for looks. Boxing gloves are for your hands like shoes are for your feet. The better the quality the better the fit, the feel, and better for preventing injury. Here are 3 main features we think you should focus on when decided what boxing glove is best for you:
Padding.
Not all padding is created equal in boxing gloves. Remember, you will be hitting an 100lb heavy bag when you come to our studio. Some padding is simply not enough. Look for multiple layers of padding to ensure that over time your hand is protected. If after class you’re feeling sore it could be that your gloves aren’t as tough as you.Size and fit.
Since most of our boxers are female we’re going to focus on female sizing when it comes to gloves. Some larger boxing companies do make “Female Sized” gloves, however upon examination you’ll see that the glove is simply pink and is slightly smaller all around. This is not what we’re talking about when it comes to fit.
Farm Girl Fitness has partnered with Girls Just Wanna Box, a female own and focused Boxing Club in the east end of Toronto, Ontario. We not only love their vibe and their message, but we LOVED the fact that the owners had created their own female fitted boxing glove. This glove takes into consideration the wrist size, hand breadth and length of fingers, and more.

If you’ve ever done a boxing class you know that Boxing = Sweat. So if your glove is not designed to be breathable you, and everyone around you, might regret it after a while. Breathable gloves mean that you’ll be more comfortable while training and your gloves will dry out quicker after you’re done class.
Boxing classes can become addictive. The rush of endorphins, the full body workout, the combination of strength and cardio, plus the energy of your coach and teamates, all of this can lead to a boxing addiction, (in a good way of course).
So, if you’re going to put in the time and energy to train, please make sure you’re protecting those hands too. And be sure to check out our schedule to see when the next “Boxing Basics” or “Barnyard Boxing” is running.
